The Sundays is a British band that produces great indie music. The members are David Gavurin (d.o.b 4 April 1966), Harriet Wheeler (d.o.b 26 June 1966), Paul Brindley (d.o.b. 6 November 1966) and Patrick Hannan (d.o.b. 4 March 1969).
The Sundays formed in the summer of 1987 in London, England. The original members were David Gavurin and Harriet Wheeler. They met each other while studying at university, and began writing songs together. In August of 1988, The Sundays performed their first concert, at the Falcoln "Vertigo Club" in Camden, London. It generated good word-of-mouth, and they were soon hailed as the next big thing in the music scene. Patrick Hannan and Paul Brindley later joined the band to play the instruments. Soon The Sundays obtained a recording contract with Rough Trade Records, UK. Up to now, they have released three well-received albums. After the release of 'Static & Silence', Harriet Wheeler and David Gavurin got married. They now have one son and one daughter.
The Sundays plan to rest for a few years, so there will be no new material from them in the near future.
I came across them in August 1997, when they were about to release 'Summertime". I saw them featured in the MTV News. They played a clip of the song. However, it did not make any impact on me.
Then one late night (VERY late at night) half a year later, when I was playing my favourite computer game, and I also had the MTV on. All of a sudden my attention was caught by the sound from the MTV. 'Ummm...this song sounds familiar...could this be 'Summertime' by The Sundays?' When the chorus went 'It's you and me in the summertime', I was astounded by my magical powers of knowing the song after only listened to a ten-second clip half a year before. How could I have recognised the song? I still desire to know.
I rediscovered The Sundays when I heard the cover of 'Here's Where The Story Ends', by Tin Tin Out featuring Shelly Nelson back in April 1998. I lent the 'Static & Silence' CD from the library and I instantly fell in love with it! That's when I started to like The Sundays.
Since then I have been actively searching for their really rare singles and promos. It took me two years for my collection to be completed!
It is frustrating to be a The Sundays fan. It is already over five years since they released their last album. Although there were rumours about a new album every now and then, these rumours turned out to be false. There is still no sign of any new material in the near future.
This is an almost complete list of materials by The Sundays. Unless otherwise stated, they refer to UK releases. The dates in the brackets indicate the release date of the album or single. This page looks best in Internet Explorer.
Faye Wong, a very popular vocalist among the Chinese population, made a Cantonese cover of 'Here's Where The Story Ends' in 1995. Click here to find the lyrics translated by me.
